Thames Water’s Riverside Sewage Treatment, located in Rainham, has undergone a large upgrade to its sludge treatment plant. Aqua Enviro’s team of process scientists and engineers provided effective mid-term support on one of the first Thermal Hydrolysis Plant (THP) assets to be installed in the Thames Water region. The Thermal Hydrolysis Process was used to enhance the plants existing anaerobic digestion processes. Using the THP, the anaerobic digestion process can enhance energy, whilst creating a pathogen free final product.
The expansive skills and expertise of the Aqua Enviro team enabled Thames Water to temporarily assign operational control of the plant, during the time when the operational resources were occupied with mechanical and electrical works. Throughout the handover period, Aqua Enviro effectively maintained the sites digestion and dewatering operations, ensuring process stability while achieving above expected levels of energy generation.
David Fenech, Thames Water Operations Manager said: “Aqua Enviro have provided excellent support during a difficult period; always professional, willing and adaptable in changing circumstances.”
Upon completion of the project, Aqua Enviro handed the site back to Thames Water and provided site specific training to the operational and maintenance staff. Where necessary, further knowledge and recommendations were then provided for the team which allowed further improvements to the original design. This method created an effective ‘soft landing’ for the staff, thereby enabling Riverside to maintain excellent site performance.
Rowland Minall, Aqua Enviro Operations Manager added: “Aqua Enviro were very pleased to support Thames Water during the changes and always aim to exceed expectations in all the projects we are involved with, we certainly hope to work further with the team at Thames Water.”
