Research by Aqua Enviro experts has now been published by WRAP into AD technologies which could add value to the bio-waste and digestate process, ultimately helping to reduce the worldwide reliance on fossil fuels.
The results compiled by Aqua Enviro, will now help inform future funding plans for WRAP and Zero Waste Scotland and aim to help create sustainable greener energy for future generations.
Applicants were asked to submit a new technology idea which they believe could help the anaerobic digestion process.
Anaerobic digestion is a key technology for recycling bio-waste in the UK. It involves microorganisms breaking down organic matter without oxygen, frequently to produce biogas.
The new funding and development offered by WRAP (A world without waste) and Zero Waste Scotland will look at the possibility of producing new products such as bio-products or chemicals through manipulation of the anaerobic digestion process.
These could then be potentially used to help develop a bio-economy less reliant on fossil fuels.
