Sludge can be produced from various processes, i.e.:
- wastewater treatment or fish farms.
What is biochar? A new product? By-product?
• The new EU Fertilising Products Regulation 2019/1009 (FPR) – from summer 2022 (16th of July), introduces “optional harmonisation”.
• In the EU Fertilising Products Regulation – sewage sludge was excluded from the list of eligible feedstocks due to contaminants of emerging
concern.
• Possibility of amending if: technical progress and/or scientific evidence.
• Sewage sludge (SS) biochar is however authorised for use in agriculture in: Czech Republic, Sweden, Italy, Denmark, Estonia, Norway, Israel and Australia…
