Caldicellulosiruptor bescii (C. bescii) is a hyper-thermophilic anaerobic bacteria
▪ C. bescii was isolated in a geothermally heated freshwater pool in Russia in 1990
▪ Decades of research in the biofuel industry
▪ MHP uses C. bescii to enable the digestion of cellulose in wastewater solids
▪ Hydrolyzes cellulose for further digestion
▪ Observed to grow 100-fold in 48 hours at 75oC in digested sludge
