Using process and network data alongside climate change forecasting to assess the climate resilience of Scottish Water’s wastewater treatment asset base.

The objective of this study was to qualitatively and quantitatively assess the baseline and future resilience of Scottish Water’s wastewater treatment works to the following climate hazards: Prolonged period of dry weather Prolonged period of wet weather First flush event resulting in load surges at the works High temperature Low temperature (although to become less likely) The results of this exercise will be used to complement the quantitative assessments of dilution risks during low flows to inform wastewater works most at risk of breaching compliance in the future and to refine the risk of failure of the different treatment processes under a wider range of climatic events.
